Participation Pathways

YOU choose how you want to join!

The 2023 DC Early Educator Experience will be a hybrid experience. Participants will have the opportunity to attend and earn professional development hours through the pathway that works best for them: virtual, in-person or both.

Virtual

The virtual pathway will be held on an interactive, digital platform. Content will be available to registrants starting Monday, April 3, until Sunday, April 30.

By participating in the virtual pathway, registrants will be able to consume content at their leisure throughout the month and earn four professional development hours

In-person

The in-person pathway will be held at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 28, from 1:00 p.m. to  5:00 p.m.

By participating in the in-person pathway, registrants will be able to reflect on their roles in a group setting with their peers, while also learning skills and strategies to improve their practice. They will earn four professional development hours by attending the event.

Hybrid

The hybrid event pathway will allow registrants to participate in both the virtual and in-person pathways.

By participating in the hybrid pathway, registrants will earn eight professional development hours.

Subsidy programs applying for full-day closure must use this pathway.

Registrants who participate in this pathway will have the opportunity to watch informational sessions that are tailored to the interests of early childhood educators based on their setting and the age they teach:

  • Zone1: Birth to Age 3
  • Zone 2: Pre-K to Grade 3
  • Zone 3: Administrators
  • Zone 4: Home-Based Early Learning

The content will hone in on the core knowledge areas: Curriculum and Professionalism & Advocacy. Each zone will have content that is hyper-practical to their professional development with a reflection from one of their peers.

Professionalism & Advocacy
  • Spotlight on Professional Growth: Staff Qualifications and Compensation for Early Childhood Educators
Curriculum
  • Spotlight on Curriculum: Early Childhood Literacy and Inclusive Curriculum

For this pathway, subsidy-reimbursed closure will not be supported.

This pathway is great for registrants who will not be able to request/have an approved professional development day, take PTO from work, or for programs that are unable to close. This pathway is also best for attendees located outside of the DC metro area.

Registrants who participate in this pathway will have the opportunity to celebrate DC Early EdX in person for the first time ever. With doors opening at 1:00 p.m., attendees will first hear an inspiring, feel-good message from the keynote speakers. Then, building off of the virtual content, they will be presented with ethical scenarios and hear from other professionals in their sector on how to overcome the situation. To conclude the day, the final hour of the event will provide space for attendees to network and celebrate their workforce — through music, dancing, food and other fun opportunities. And in case they missed it or weren’t able to attend the 2022 NAEYC conference, the WeVision EarlyEd exhibit will be available to tour, and visitors can provide their input on how they envision their ideal child care system.

For this pathway, a half-day subsidy reimbursed closure will not be supported.

This pathway is great for registrants who have been itching to connect with their peers in person, who can request/have an approved professional development day, take PTO from work or for programs that can close after lunch.

Registrants who participate in this pathway will have the opportunity for a full month of learning, networking, advocating and celebrating with their peers. By participating in the hybrid pathway, they will be made privy to everything that falls within the other two pathways.

Subsidy programs applying for full-day closure must use this pathway.

This pathway is great for subsidy providers who wish to request closure for a professional development day. To meet the requirement for a full-day closure, participants must complete the virtual content and then continue their learning at the in-person event. This pathway is best for anyone who is looking to earn the maximum amount of professional development hours.
